A way to get an affordable house is to wait until the states have a tax sale, call down to your local tax office and see when they have their tax sale and then go and get one of those. You can also find delinquent tax deeds and pay for those and then they should become yours but in the state of SC the delinquent has 6 months to pay you back but often times they do not or cannot. If you do not like to do it that way, you can always buy some land and get a tiny house or a pop up house or even a mobile home and go that route.
