Review: Tyler Perry’s "Beauty in Black" on Netflix Season 1 and 2

If you’re looking for a series full of plot twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat, Beauty in Black is it. The story follows two women who find themselves trapped in a world of manipulation and danger.

The Plot

The narrative centers on two women essentially held hostage by a high-stakes pimp and a fixer named Jules. While the women are just trying to make a living, they find themselves stripped of their agency and constantly threatened with jail time. Jules uses false allegations to keep them under his thumb, ensuring they stay trapped in his cycle.

The Power of Jules

Jules is the ultimate "go-to" guy for the elite; he’s a master at getting people off the hook by paying off police and doing the "dirty work" no one else will touch. Because of his reach and what he’s capable of, he is widely feared. He treats the women's lives as collateral, forcing them to work for him indefinitely to pay off manufactured debts.

Why You Should Watch

While the show is undeniably good, it is heavy and a lot to take in emotionally. One of the highlights is the use of flashbacks, which give us a deep dive into Kimmie’s past. These scenes provide essential context on her history and how she formed her ride-or-die friendship with Rain.

There are two seasons of this on Netflix if this is your kind of show then I would watch it.

SEASON 2:

I finally started Season 2 of Beauty in Black, and honestly, it’s just not hitting the mark. The whole experience feels like a massive contradiction—the story is being rushed through "everywhere," yet the actual scenes and acting feel incredibly dragged out.

The acting is the biggest letdown; the expressions feel flat and unconvincing, making everything feel bland and hollow. Instead of genuine tension, we're just getting a constant cycle of cliffhangers and "edge-sitting" moments that are stretched across multiple episodes just to keep us watching. It feels like a lot of "here and there" without any real substance or direction. Very disappointing. I am only in season 4 out of 16 and to be honest some parts are catching my attention and other parts just seem dragged out.
It shows each persons life in the same time frame and it just meshes everything together but it get to a point and it over ran everything.

Episode 5 is not as bad but I know that it goes in and out. It is like every other episode is better than the other making it worth watching but not worth watching because it is dragged out.

Alice in Borderlands Netflix exclusive series

Alice in Borderlands is kind of like squid games but different. This one you are playing against all of the face cards such as the queen, king, Joker. This is based off of a manga!

The players end up going to a different universe so to say that is empty of the human race except the contestants. It pretty much is a mirror world of the place they are from.

The ones that are in the borderlands are pretty much ones that are trying to die and or in coma and are stuck in the borderlands or limbo and they have to play games to come back or they could choose to die.

If someone failed or lose the game, they end up getting killed but if they try to leave the borderland or go out of bounds, they get struck by a laser from the sky.

There are some real tear jerkers in this series and it will have you feeling some kind of way.

There are 3 seasons on it and honestly they are so good! If you like Squid Games then you will like this one too because it is pretty much identical. The players have to play the games and try to survive and after a while, once they win their games they can end up voting to become a resident of that world or go home.

In season three there are new games and the ones that ended up going home ended up being questioned about the games that they have played and the things that they seen. Some people do not remember but others do remember and feel as if something is not right. There are two teams playing two different games unlike the others where they all play one game.

Most of the survivors ended up going back to the borderlands while other did not. It is like those that remembered are the ones that ended up going back in season three and those that did not didn't go back. Season three pretty much explains everything and it was just so good.

I highly recommend watching this series!

They are trying to make a spin off of it and instead of making Season 4 in Japan it is coming to the US which would be neat.
